The third day of Ice Wolves training camp saw more work on development, cohesion, testing players in different situations. Head Coach Isaac Washburn pointed all of these things out after another strong day of camp.
1.Development Plans are being built
“It’s been all hands on deck through the first two days and day three began no differently with our guys experiencing just how serious we are about their development and utilizing all of the tremendous support and resources we have. We put guys through some testing to get a good baseline of where they’re at individually so we can continue to build out individualized development plans that cater to their specific needs. Leaning on our Director of Human Performance Dr. Gary Bowman and Athletic Trainer Arik Lujan is a huge part in creating a specialized road map for each player and not just taking a one size fits all approach.” -Isaac Washburn
2. Testing Different Situations
“The on ice portion of the day picked up right where we left off and we saw guys battle and compete with one another in a variety of in game situations. I thought we were able to put players in some different settings and start to see where guys might fit into certain roles. There are a lot of moving pieces early in the season so right now it’s a little bit of trial and error. It’s really competitive and players are trying to stake their claim, but we’re reminding them that things are very fluid and nothing is permanent at this point.”
3. Cohesive Group Early
“One thing that stands out right now is that we have a strong group cohesion and it’s quickly becoming a tight knit group. While guys are battling and jockeying for position within the group, it’s been great to see guys pushing one another in the right ways and helping each other out. Already some great leadership in the group and some guys are starting to stand out in the way they’re building others up. They’re making sure no one gets left behind which is the culture we’re trying to cultivate because a rising tide lifts all ships.”
