The second day of the NA3HL Ice Wolves training camp wrapped up and Head Coach Isaac Washburn started to implement systems and enjoyed seeing high pace for the second consecutive day. Day two also came with players being challenged and succeeding throughout the day.
- Pace and Intensity Stayed High
“After a tough day one you never know how guys will show up on day two, but the guys kept up the pace and intensity throughout which was great to see. It’s pretty clear that it’s a group that is hungry and it’s great to see guys going above and beyond, coming in early and staying late to do extra and take advantage of the great facilities we have here. Guys aren’t satisfied to just be here, they’re pushing to earn their piece of the pie. Players are focused and were really engaged today, not just on ice but also off ice in our team meetings and video sessions.” -Isaac Washburn
- Focusing on Details Early
“We challenged our guys today and got right into some of our core systems, but more importantly digging into the details of the habits and concepts that we want within our DNA. The attention to detail, even the smallest ones, is something that we’re focusing on early because for us to be successful in developing these guys they have to buy-in to the mindset that excellence in small things is excellence in all things. Lots of good questions which I love because it shows that guys are engaged and processing the information we’re giving them. It’s all a learning process and we’re pushing them to get comfortable being uncomfortable which is great because that’s really where the growth happens. The message has been that we’re ok with mistakes, as long as they’re working mistakes and not lazy mistakes.” -Isaac Washburn
3. Developing Good Details and Habits Early
“We threw a lot of different situations at the guys today and they responded well. Today we wanted to put them in a large number of high-rep, high-frequency events. We were pleased to see a lot of the good details and habits that guys already have in their games. When playing with new teammates and linemates there is always an adjustment period as they figure one another out, but it was great to see some of the good chemistry that is already being developed. A lot of good hockey plays being made.” -Isaac Washburn
