Fans Attending NA3HL Game This Sunday, December 3 at 2pm MT and NAHL Game on Friday, December 15 at 6:30pm MT Can Join in Tossing Teddy Bears and Stuffed Animals Onto the Ice After the First Ice Wolves Goal
(Albuquerque, NM) Wednesday, November 29, 2023 – The New Mexico Ice Wolves® organization today announced two family fun events for a great cause in Teddy Bear Tosses with Bernalillo County Sherrif John Allen with the teddy bears and other stuffed animals collected being given to Bernalillo County Sheriff Office (BCSO) to be used as emotional support for kids in troubled situations. Fans are asked to bring new or gently used teddy bears and other stuffed animals to two upcoming home games at Outpost Ice Arenas in Albuquerque, one for the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) team and one for the North American Hockey League (NAHL) team. Each game will have a pregame ceremonial faceoff with Sheriff Allen.
The Teddy Bear Toss at the NA3HL game is this Sunday, December 3 at 2pm MT and the second Teddy Bear Toss is at the NAHL game on Friday, December 15 at 6:30pm MT. The Sunday game at 2pm MT caps off a three-game homestand for the NA3HL NM Ice Wolves against the Mid Cities Jr. Stars with games on Friday and Saturday, December 1-2 at 6:30pm MT. The Friday, December 15 NAHL game at 6:30pm MT kicks off a two-game homestand against South Division rival Oklahoma Warriors with Saturday’s game also at 6:30pm MT.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office has always prioritized initiatives that aid in providing emotional support to children. Over the years, BCSO has developed several programs focusing on the well-being of young individuals in the community, especially those undergoing traumatic experiences. BCSO deputies are trained to use these teddy bears as tools to build trust and provide a sense of security to children during incidents that are often overwhelming and scary.
Sheriff John Allen has spent the entirety of his professional life dedicated to upholding law, order, and justice in his community. With a career spanning over two decades, Sheriff Allen has been an integral part of the law enforcement community of New Mexico. Sheriff Allen began his distinguished career in 1997 with the New Mexico State Police, stationed in Las Vegas, New Mexico. In 2001, he moved to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), where his commitment to serving the public led him to work in all area commands. His expertise and dedication quickly led him to the role of a detective, where he specialized in handling violent crimes and homicides. In 2013, Sheriff Allen was promoted to Sergeant and he was assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division in September 2014. His purview expanded to include Homicide, Violent Crimes, SWAT, Crisis Intervention Unit, Cold Case Investigations and supervisory positions in the Special Weapons and Tactics unit, and the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement agencies. After retiring from BCSO in 2019, Sheriff Allen continued his dedication to law enforcement education by serving as an Instructor at the Central New Mexico Community College Law Enforcement Academy in 2020. In January 2023, his career culminated in his election as Sheriff.
